Sr. Celina Galinyte
Sister Celina is the National Director for Alpha in Lithuania. She grew up in Kaunas, Lithuania which was formerly part of the Soviet Union and was in the Communist Youth (“komosomol”) at school. She graduated from Kaunas Conservatoire as violinist and as a student she took part in the resistance against the Soviets in the fight for Lithuania’s independence.
After becoming a Christian, Sister Celina entered the Benedictine Sisters of Kaunas Monastery where she is now Vice Prioress responsible for the liturgy, chanting and coordinating all the pastoral activities of the monastery (catechesis, Alpha, other groups). She was also Choir Director at the Sacred Music School and studied Theology (Licentiate of Monastic Studies) in Rome before joining Alpha in 2005 as Alpha Coordinator. She enjoys singing and composing worship music, as well as swimming, cycling and mushroom and berry picking.
